Ireland’s Shane Lowry now faces an anxious week long wait before knowing next Monday (Feb 11th) if he qualifies for the WGC – Accenture Match-Play later this month.
Lowry arrived home this morning (MON) having missed the cut in the Omega Dubai Desert Classic and the knowledge he’s dropped two places to 64th on the World Rankings.
The top-64 in the world as of next Monday will qualify to tee-up in the February 20th commencing $US 8.75m event in Ariozna.
Lowry’s saving grace could be a decision by the new World No. 10 ranked Phil Mickelson not to contest the event as in the past he has taken the week off for a family holiday.
Mickelson jumped a dozen places on the rankings on the back of his wire-to-wire Phoenix Open success.
On Wednesday the reigning Portugal Masters champion and former Irish Open winner hosts an Irish Open media outing at Carton House and venue for this year’s Irish Open.
And new Omega Dubai Desert Classic winner Stephen Gallacher should be assured of contesting only his second WGC having moved from 111th on the rankings to 60th.
