Rory McIlroy delivered Titleist not only a third PGA Tour success this year but handed the company a ringing endorsement for their new 913 fairway woods.
The current World No. 1 won the recent 94th PGA Championship driving the ball with a Titleist 913 D3 driver but he was carring the 913 woods into the Deutsche Bank event for a first time.
So that’s two wins out of three events for the Titliest 913 D3 driver and one out of one for the 913 fairway woods.
In teeing up at TPC Boston last week McIlroy’s bag included: 913D3 driver (8.5 degree), 913Fd 3-wood (13.5 degree), 913Fd 5-wood (1 degree), 712 MB irons (3-9), Vokey Design SM4 wedges (46, 54 and 60 degree) and a Scotty Cameron GSS putter. He played a Pro V1x ball.
Those paying attention to Louis Oosthuizen’s clubs would have noticed that on the eve of the event the 2010 British Open winner and 2012 Masters near-winner changed putters from a Ping Scottsdale ZB-S to a Ping Scottsdale Anser 2.
In the third round, Oosthuizen converted seven birdie putts on the front nine for a 7-under 29. He finished the event with 110 putts to be tied seventh in the putting stats.
And 14-time Major winner Tiger Woods went for new grooves in deciding to pack the new Nike 56-degree VR Pro wedge at the Deutsche Bank Championship.
Golf Week magazine suggests at the PGA Championship, Woods replaced his VR Pro 60-degree wedge with a new one.
