Two all-male golf clubs to play host to the Open Championship are under further pressure to admit women as full members.
The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews ( R & A), and venue now every five years to golf’s oldest Major, along with the Muirfield Club, and host to the 2013 Open Championship, still do not admit women members.
Earlier this week, Augusta National Golf Club, and host each year to the Masters, admitted former US Secretary of State, Condeleeza Rice and business executive, Darla Moore as their first female members.
Robison is confident now the R & A and Muirfield will fall into line with Augusta.
“The First Minister (Alex Salmon) All clubs should be open to women members but then there is nothing we can do to force them,” said Robison.
“However the direction now is clearly to admit both men and women members and hopefully we will see an end to that.”
