Donald Delights Not Facing Ryder Cup Theme Questions.

It has been nine years since Luke Donald last contested an Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

Since then the 17 time pro winning Donald has also brilliantly cemented himself as a double victorious European Ryder Cup Captain and a captain looking later next year to become the only captain, either European or USA, to lead their side to victory in three straight Ryder Cups.

Though the Ryder Cup was not a talking point when speaking to Donald post his second round 68 that has him lying at five-under and just outside the leading 50 heading to day three of the $5m event.

Donald was politely approached and asked if he would specifically speak to the 25th anniversary of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.  He responded saying he’d be delighted and remarking that it would be a nice break from the countless post-round interviews he’s faced focussing on the Ryder Cup.

“It’s just great to see so many familiar faces and from so many different walks of life”.

Donald made his Dunhill Links debut in 2007 in sharing 23rd place and over his seven subsequent appearances his best result was a T7th place result in 2009 and also in 2017.  This week is also Donald’s first appearance in the event since a T27th effort in 2021.

“In the early years, I had now good friend Jamie Redknapp as my amateur partner and we became really good friends,” Donald added.

“We had met each other on my honeymoon (Sardina) and we’d meet here each year to play golf together.

“It’s those sort of things that this tournament

“Mt golf was great today as I hit all 18 greens, posting a four-under 68 that should have been a bit better really,” he said.

“I could have putted a bit better as I had a couple of three putts but overall my game was pretty solid today, so looking forward now to back-to-back days on the Old Course at St. Andrews.

“It doesn’t get much better than that does it?”
