South African Thirston Lawrence is celebrating a super golfing feat in capturing the Omega European Masters for a third straight occasion.
Lawrence birdied the fourth extra play-off hole after both he and England’s Paul Casey ended regulation play locked on 18-under.
Casey should have been celebrating at the close of regulation play had it not been for his 72nd hole approach shot coming up short and taking a bogey in a round of 68 and fall back into a tie for the lead at 18-under.

Lawrence produced a stunning closing round of a bogey-free eight-under 62 to snare the clubhouse lead but only for Casey to ‘make a meal’ of the last and open the door for his fellow Englishman.
The duo headed back to the 18th on four occasions, each parring the 18th for the first trio of play-off holes before Lawrence ended the play-off at the 76th hole of the Crans-sur-Sierre course.
“It’s crazy, it’s probably the most emotion I’ve ever shown like in a happy way, normally I cry,” Lawrence said in collection a sixth DP World Tour success and also the 11th of his pro career.
“I can’t believe it, I fought so hard today and just gave it my everything. I feel for Paul, he played great and it looked like it was his even in the play-off.
“It’s just the best feeling in the world, honestly the best feeling in the world.
“Honestly I did (think I had a chance), I was playing nicely and after the first two rounds, I thought I could shoot eight or nine under and finish well.
“I knew there would be a low-60 in there and I just had to believe and give it my all.
“It’s amazing, to play in a golf tournament that I think is the longest ever that’s hosted at the same golf course, and to share three with Seve, I never met him but I’ve always seen clips of him, and it’s unbelievable to share that with him.”
Casey had produced a 63 of his own on day three that earned him an eventual three shot overnight lead going into the final round but it turned to be day Casey probably would rather forget bogeying the third hole, doubling the sixth and dropping a shot on the eighth.
He then superbly regained the lead and looked assured of victory thanks to five birdies from his ninth to 15th holes and than only needed a par at the last to take victory by a shot but alas ….
And true to his word, Casey assured everyone he will donate all of his prize money to the Fondation Beloved charity connected to the tragic New Year’s Day fire at a bar in Crans Montana.
Casey’s donation will be Euros 354,734 euros and his payout in being runner-up.
