Jamieson’s The Toast Brilliantly Ending A 26-Year & 421 ‘Full’ Maiden Tournament Winless Drought.

Scotland’s Scott Jamieson is the toast in ending a 26-year and 421 full 72-hole DP World Tour tournament winless drought in capturing the Nexo Championship in his beloved Scotland nation.

Jamieson, 42, came from behind in posting a closing round of 67 to capture a first full 72-hole first DP World Tour title by tw0 shots at 11-under on the host Trump International course near Aberdeen.

The Florida-based Scot had captured a maiden Tour win in December 2012 after a play-off at the co-sanctioned Nelson Mandela Challenge but at a tournament, nearly 14 years ago, that was reduced to just 36-holes due to consistent heavy rain.

Now the affable Jamiseson can return home a proud four-round champion winning in his 421st DP World Tour santioned event.

As well, Jamieson becomes the second straight Scottish-born winner of the Nexo Championship after Grant Forrest captured the title a year ago.

Watching the video above Jamieson was close to tears moments after holing the victory putt.

“It’s tough, so tough. So hard to win. I was so patient all day”, said Jamieson running his fingers through his greying hair.

“I just can’t believe I’ve won. What I’ve gone through since the Nelson Madela makes this win all that more enjoyable.  Though the progression I have made this year …. I have been starting to get to the business end of the season and did not have a lot of (Race to Dubai) points up.

“So, to win and now have a couple of years of free goes is nice.

“I was kind of patient all week.  Also to get the weather like we had you needed to be patient as level par is a good score and you were able to grind it out.

“Looking back, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday I was hear practicing and I felt I was hitting the ball really well.  I did some good stuff with my coach, Jamie Gough who has helped me tremendously in the last couple of months.

“So, I was feeling good but that doesn’t always translate into good results but it did this week (smiling)”.

Victory lifted Jamieson’s DP World Tour career earnings, since his maiden Tour start at Madeira Island in April 2010, over the Euro 8m mark to Euro 8,306,93 and the prize of a two-year Tour exemption to the end of the 2028 season.

England’s Matthew Jordan (67) finished second on 9-under and a shot clear of countryman Andy Sullivan (68) at 7-under.

South African Saun Norris and overnight leader at 7-under crashed under the weight of a final round 76 and not helped in being hit with a two-shot penalty after a bizarre incident on the fourth hole — see video hereunder.

As well, Norris horribly three-putted the last in taking a double-bogey ‘7’.
