Open Champion Paul Lawrie tried not to sound so serious when admitting ‘I played lovely for two days but got nothing out of it, as usual” following his second round of the ISPS Handa Senior Open.
Lawrie posted a one-over par 71 that included three birdies but one extra bogey in very difficult windy conditions for a 36=hole level par tally and a then share of 2oth place late on day two competing on the host Kings Course at Gleneagles.
Though the 1999 Open Champion did so well in speaking to handful of the media, members of the media he’s dealt with all his career in containing his disappointment.

“I had at two-under for the tournament with three holes to play and then hit a shot into 16 about 2o-feet and three-putted it and then bogeyed 17 and three-putted the last and apart from that I am tickety ******* # boo”, said Lawrie smiling.
“So, I don’t want to play anymore. I don’t give a damn (smiling).
“Four or six under would have been about right but then I know you are not going to get everything you want. So level after two days in no disaster. Though when you are a Tour professional and you get it in position, you don’t give it away, and as I am saying I’ve just done that.”
