The streets of Aberdeen are sure to be packed next Monday when victorious Ryder Cup captain, Colin Montgomerie carries the 2012 London Olympic Games torch relay.
Monty’s been chosen for his charity work with the Elizabeth Montgomerie Foundation and the Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres that are seeking to raise £3m for a building in Aberdeen.
Strangely, former Open Champion Paul Lawrie has been overlooked in favour of Monty.
Lawrie revealed during last week’s Wales Open he had not been asked to carry the torch even though he is not contesting the U.S. Open.
Also the torch relay is to be run within a wedge shot of Lawrie’s Aberdeen home.
