US Open Father’s Day Runner-Up Set To Miss Open Championship – Wife’s Having A Baby

News reports are suggesting US Open Father’s Day runner-up Sam Burns looks set to miss teeing-up in next month’s Open Championship at Royal Birkdale.

Burn’s wife Caroline is due to give birth to the couple’s second child and with her World No. 15 ranked husband set to be by her side in Louisana.

After his round at Shinnecock Hills, Burns spoke about the balancing act between the biggest week of his competitive career and a growing family at home.

“I just wanted to hang out with him,” Burns said of his young son and reported in GolfToday.

“I’ve been gone all day, basically every day this week. They’re actually going back home tonight. My wife’s 37 weeks now, so they’re going to go back home. I know I’m not going to get to see him for a week, which will be terrible. So I just tried to get a few more extra minutes in.”

The 29-year-old Burns has won six times in his pro career including five victories on the PGA Tour, though the last in 2023.

His effort last Sunday in finishing second at Shinnecock Hills was his best in 25 maj0r appearances.

Of those 25 Burns has contested seven Open Championships, including the 2016 Open being his first in the majors while his best finish in golf’s oldest major was T31st in 2024 at Royal Troon,
