It is forever sad when anyone is weaing a black ribbon and publically sharing their sadness and loving memory of a deceased family member, colleague or friend.
Viktor Hovland is wearing a black ribbon on his golf hat in contesting week’s US Open Championship at Shinnecock Hills.
Hovland is proudly honouring Norwegian National Team coach Hans Åberg, who died unexpectedly in England while on assignment during The Amateur Championship.

Aberg had played a prominent role in the country’s superb development of elite players since 2019.
Under Aberg’s direction Team Norway experienced big success at the World Amateur Team Championships 2022 where they finished at a very impressive 4th position amongst the powerhouses of Japan, USA, Sweden and many more. A truly remarkable achievement.
Hovland was facing an anxious Friday afternoon wait having posted scores of 76 and 69 to finish at five-over and, at the time of writing this article, lying one shot outside the projected cut of four-over.
Aberg is no relation to Swedish golfer Ludwig Aberg as Aberg’s swing is coach Hans Larsson, a Swedish golf teacher he met when working on his golf game as a teenager.
