Proud MacIntyre Arrives At Augusta Declaring: “No Need To Worry. I’m Right There. Just Need To Rinse & Repeat“.

In-form Scot Robert MacIntyre has arrived at Augusta for a fourth Masters appearance ready to ‘rinse and repeat’ following Sunday’s near miss at the Valero Texas Open in San Antonio.

MacIntyre secured his best result of the season albeit sharing second place behind American J J Spaun, who came from two shots back heading into the final round to win by a shot at 17-under in damp and cold conditions of the host TPC San Antonio course.

The Oban lefty was looking to not only capture a third PGA Tour title but to win for a first time on US soil after capturing a first win at the 2024 RBC Canadian Open and a second on his own Scottish home soil a few months later at the Genesis Scottish Open.

MacIntyre looked very much in frame to join fellow Scot Martin Laird as a Valero Texas Open champion leading by four shots heading into the closing two rounds.

Disappointingly MacIntyre struggled in the Scottish-like windy and wet conditions over the closing two rounds managing scores of 72 and 70 compared his opening scores of 64 and 66.

As well, MacIntyre produced 20 holes between the eighth hole of his third round to the ninth hole of his closing round without a birdie.

Sadly it was one shot on the last day, and as was the scenario at The Players, that brought the Oban lefty unstuck.

On a big plus side, it’s a second tournament the back to World No. 8 ranked golfer has put himself into contention for the ‘W’ after finishing fourth at the Players Championship.

“It was a tough week. Just it was solid, but just disappointing not to get a win,“ he said.

“I played well my last start at The Players, I finished fourth there. With the advantage I had this morning, I really felt like I was in control of my golf ball.

“Yeah, I honestly don’t know what else to say other than I’m disappointed. Yeah, I gave it my best shot. I put the new driver in play this week. I trusted everything that I’ve got especially coming down that stretch. I was proud of the way I played.

“Disappointed with some of the bogeys. Good execution, a couple of shots.

“I’m right there, I don’t need to worry about things. I just need to rinse and repeat again going into next week“.

MacIntyre’s effort earned him a tidy $741,533 prize cheque taking his 2026 PGA season earnings from his seven events to $2,910,008 to be lying 11th on the money list.
