Thanks to golf’s World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler’s wife giving birth to the couple’s second child and the Lone Star State has opened its doors for affable Irish golfer Seamus Power to contest this week’s Texas Children’s Houston Open.
Last Sunday afternoon, Power said it looked highly unlikely he would find his way into the $9.9m being again staged on the Memorial Park course in Houston.
Power was sixth reserve and even entered Monday’s Final Qualifier as he sought to tee-up in what would be a seventh Tour start of the year for the current World No. 159.

Sam Ryder and Jackson Suber, and finishing at 12-under and nine-under respectively, secured the two spots into the tournament proper.
Power’s name appears at the tail of the field as a withdrawal, so he did not tee-up Monday on the host Westwood Golf Club course.
Instead he got word he would more than like get a start given Scheffler’s expected withdrawal and also that one or two other were looking likely also not to tee-up.
Among those also into the event is Matt Kuchar, now aged 47 and the winner of 19 pro tournaments.
Of course, Scheffler’s withdrawal is a big blow for the event but the likes of Power and Kuchar naturally are counting their blessings and hopefully, come Sunday, a sizeable prize purse.
GolfByTourMiss delighted in catching-up last week with Power about his detemination to make the most of his appearances this PGA Tour season.
“I’m playing a lot of steady and consistent golf but again this week, I never really got anything going where it’s like, man, all of a sudden something goes in“, said Power.
“It was just one of those weeks where, you know, those 15-20 footers, where you can almost turn a good round into a very good one, they didn’t quite go in and this and that. But look, it’s a tough golf course, and it’s just hard to get much going here. It’s hard to chase here, so you’re just trying to make some of those putts, and didn’t quite make enough“.
