Boca Raton, Florida …… It’s 22-years since Zach Johnson captured a maiden PGA Tour victory at the 2004 BellSouth Classic and the week proir The Masters.
Now with The Masters just a month away and Johnson has won for a maiden occasion and in his inaugural event on the Champions Tour, and doing so just a fortnight after turning 50.
The double major champion looked a class of his own winning by four shots at 11-under in glorious conditions on the Old Course host course in Boca Raton, Florida.
The 50-year-old comfortably two-putted the last ahead of his family coming onto the green, and his young daughter Abby Jane breaking ranks and sprinting to embrace her tournament winning dad.

Nothing has changed since that day in 2004 to now winning in his maiden @ChampionsTour @JamesHardieInv event

Johnson’s win ensures he is now the 24th player to win on the three major tours under the PGA Tour umbrella – KornFerry Tour, PGA Tour and now the Champions Tour.
This journalist was present those 22-years ago at TPC Sugarloaf in the northern region of Altanta when Johnson captured a maiden Tour victory at the BellSouth Classic.
It was the week prior to the Masters and how good for Johnson to secure the very last place into the Masters thanks to a maiden Tuor win.
I asked him today if could compare the tension he faced back them compared to his feelings today in winning for a first time in the over-50s brigade
“There is a lot of parallels, a lot of parallels”, he said.
“Emotionally, trying to manage and embrace those emotions coming down the stretch is really the main parallel”.
Johnson had been asked earlier what is about his make-up that does make for such a top golfer.
“Those that know me well know that I am a competitor first and foremost”, he replied.
“I have always been a competitor before a golfer. Saying that, it’s just hard to win. Every win is sweet and I just hope this is the start to something special.
“Going forward I know it’s not going to get any easier because I know many of the guys out here can get onto a 10-week run of victories”.
