Brandt Snedeker’s $100 Putter Pays For Itself With 5 & 4 Success Over Thomas Bjorn.

American Bradnt Snedeker’s investment in a $100 putter from the Finca Cortesin pro shop has already paid for itself with a crushing 5 & 4 victory over more fancied Volvo World Match-Play opponent Thomas Bjorn.

Snedeker was never behind in his first round robin match winning the opening three holes and then racing to 5up after just six holes over the future Ryder Cup captain.
The Tennessee born Snedeker had to purchase the putter as his golf bag went missing on a flight from Miami to Madrid and then connecting on to Malaga.
The clubs still had not turned up when Snedeker and Bjorn shook hands on the first tee of the Finca Cortesin course at 12.20pm local time.
Snedeker, who is at least assured Euro 70,000 should he not go through to the knock-out stages, had to borrow a spare driver off Australia’s John Senden while he visited the Finca Cortesin Pro Shop to buy a $100 putter that he put on his room account.

“My golf bag finally arrived at the fourth hole so I had to go with a makeshift set until they arrived,” he said.

“I grabbed John Senden’s back-up driver this morning, and the driver worked really well so that could be my driver now,” said Snedeker smiling.

“I also grabbed a putter from the Pro Shop and that started working really well but then when my own clubs arrived I grabbed a hybrid, 3-wood and lob-wedge.

“So it’s been a weird few days to say the least.

“The guy in the Pro Shop hasn’t charged me yet but I am sure the one hundred bucks will be well worth it.

“I didn’t like my chances on the first tee having just 10 clubs because I knew Thomas is a world-class player, and a world-class ball striker.

“It was also windy so I guessed the day would favour him but I just got a really fortunate start and that gave me some confidence.

“I just thought to myself all I can do is to go out there and try and beat him playing with what I had.”

Snedeker is competing in the event, and in Spain, for a first occasion and also looking to impress USA Ryder Cup captain, Davis Love 111 of his match-play capabilities even though the event does not carry any Ryder Cup qualifying points.

“I love the one-on-one aspect of match-play and I decided to come to this event as it is an event that has produced some great champions,” he said.

“I feel it would be pretty tough for Davis if I won this week to leave me out of the team and also if I keep playing like this, and keep playing well.

“I’ve never had an international victory in my career and would love to win this week, so to win against some of the best in Europe can’t do anything but help my Ryder Cup chances.”

Snedeker is currently lying 11th on the USA Ryder Cup points table and three spots outside of automatically qualifying to the Medinah team, and given Love 111 will have the choice of four ‘wildcard’ picks.
