Future Of Czech Open Doubtful Says Tour.

The European Tour fears losing a third event from this year’s schedule when it meets with the Czech Open course owner today in London.

Keith Waters, Director of International Policy with the European Tour, are meeting with Stanislav Pros, owner of the Prosper Golf Resort at Celadna.

Sweden's Peter Hanson's 2010 Czech Open success led to inclusion in the Ryder Cup.

The Czech Open was set to be contested from August 16 – 19 but is on the 2012 Race to Dubai schedule as ‘TBC’.

Already this year, the Iberdrola Open in Majorca has been cancelled while the Castellon Masters, and won last year by tournament host Sergio Garcia, will not take place.

“Mr. Pros has invested heavily in the course and the tournament over the past three to four years but while he has regional support for the tournament to go ahead, he doesn’t have national government support,” said Waters.

“I’m not sure if he’s coming to London tomorrow on business or just coming to deliver the bad news personally.

“The last conversation I have with him and his team was that they didn’t have the money to stage the tournament this year, and one can easily understand that in these tough economic times.

“So I am not that optimistic.”

The Czech Open was first staged in 1994 but has been staged at Prosper Golf Resort for the past three years and including 2010 when Sweden’s Peter Hanson won the event to secure his place in the 2010 European Ryder Cup team.

“It would be a big disappointment if the Czech Open did not go ahead as I have so many special memories from that week,” said Hanson.

“Hopefully, if it’s not held this year then the situation may improve and we can see it return to the schedule in coming years.”
