A delighted David Law was off to join Grand Slam winning Rory McIlroy in Melbourne after describing what was an ‘amazing’ return to the DP World Tour (DPWT) in Brisbane.
With the assurance of a full 2026 DPWT card proudly now in his possession, Law grabbed five birdies in a closing round of 69 for an eventual share of 41st place in the co-sanctioned BWM Australian PGA Championship at the Royal Queensland club.
Spain’s talented David Puig broke clear of a three-way tie for the third round lead with the LIV golfer signing for an impressive mistake-free 66 and a two-shot win at 18-under.
For the soon-to-be 24-year-old Puig it was an amazing win coming 44-years after his boyhood hero Seve Ballesteros captured the Aussie PGA trophy, and in what was a 33rd of a remarkable 90 worldwide wins by the late, great Spaniard.

Of note was also the effort of young Spaniard Jose Luis Ballester who secured a share of 10th after the similar LIV Golf attached, and Puig’s Torque GC team-mate, captured the recent PIF Saudi International trophy in the season-ending Asian Tour event in Riyadh.
The majority of the Brisbane field were Melbourne-bound for this week’s similar co-sanctioned Crown Australian Open and headed by the Grand Slam winning and DPWT seven-time No. 1 ranked McIlroy.
It is McIlroy’s first ‘Down Under’ visit since a curly haired, then two-times major winning Northern Irishman denyed overwhelming home favourite Adam Scott with a birdie, birdie finish to win the 2013 Aussie Open in Sydney.
Joining McIlroy though without a sizeable ‘appearance’ fee is Law and with the Aberdonian chuffed with his 2026 season start.
It was a first event in proudly returning to the ranks as a full DP World Tour member in finishing a brilliant runner-up on the secondary Hotelplanner Tour.
Law said: “It’s been an amazing week.
“I was here last year and my mindset was very different compared a year ago to this year when I had just lost my card and now back here in Brisbane having regained it.
“So, there’s already a bit of excitement for me playing all fours rounds.
“I could have finished off today a little better but it’s a decent start to my new season and really pleased.”
And like his Australian PGA showing, Law will be contesting an Australian Open, and golf’s long termed unofficial fifth major, also for the second year in succession.
He said: “Last year was my first Aussie Open, so it promises to be another exciting week.
“We played at Kingston Heath last year and that was an amazing golf course and this week at Royal Melbourne which is going to be even more special.
“l’ve heard so many great things about the golf course.
“lt sets-up as an exciting week and one I’m really looking forward to.”
Joining Law in Australia’s Garden State will be Daniel Young and Cameron Adam.
