Heading into the final round of the final 2025 DP World Tour event of the season, there is 16 players lying within three shots of the lead.
There’s one player among those 16 most observers will have already decided will succeed and that’s Grand Slam winning Rory McIlroy.
McIlroy also is not only the defending DP World Tour (DPWT) Championship champion while he’s also the reigning DPWT No. 1.
As well, ‘Rors’ is looking to match Colin Montgomerie’s seven Race to Dubai titles but also succeed in capturing the joint season-ending Dubai trophies for a fourth occasion in his career.
And heading to the final day of the final 2025, Rors is conveniently tied at the top with Dane Ramus Neergaard-Petersen who has his own agenda is seeking to capture a maiden DPWT trophy and do so competing for a first time in his career alongside McIlroy.
However, let’s read the thoughts heading into the final day of the likes of Neergaard-Petersen and others following their post third round interviews with SKY Golf ….
HOW TO STOP @McIlroyRory …
What are those saying seeking to deny Rors in the season-ending @dpwtc
“I’d love to be able to stand there at the end of what’s been a great season and win another trophy but we’ll see”, says @TommyFleetwood1

Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen – T1st at 13-under
Q, Thoughts of playing alongside McIlroy?
Ans: “I’m so excited. I can’t wait for tomorrow. I haven’t played with him yet as a professional or ever, and to do it here in the final group on a Sunday is doing to be pretty special”.
Q. What would it mean to win your first tournament in Dubai?
Ans: “That would be incredible. I’ve had a big goal this year to see if I could win out here, and obviously if I were to do it tomorrow and get it over the line , that would be incredible.
“But still 18 holes out here is a lot of golf to be played. If you start missing fairways, it can become quite difficult. The plan tomorrow is try to hit a lot of fairways and give myself a lot of chances.
Tommy Fleetwood – T3rd at 12-under
Q. Finished second in 2029 and 2023, What it would mean to win?
Ans: “It means so much. Every individual event has different meanings to you. This one would be very, very special. I’m really happy that I get to go out tomorrow with a chance to win. Happy that I’ll get to start the day with that anticipation, with those feelings, with those nerves, and you know, I’ll work really hard to make sure or try and make sure that I’m in contention, turn into that back nine and see what we can do there.
“Tomorrow will be a great day. I’d really love to play some great golf and give people something to cheer about. It’s turned into a very, very special event for me.
“And again, talking about frustrations, a couple times, I’ve been so close to winning this. Yeah, I’d love to be able to stand there at the end of what’s been a great season and win another trophy but we’ll see. It’s amazing how many people are in contention and just how tight and how small the margins are out there.”
Tyrrell Hatton – T3rd at 12-under
Q. Asked if he would be totally focused on just winning the championship or does The Race to Dubai add a little spice?
Ans: “I mean, sure. Today’s round has given me a chance, depending what the last few groups do. Hopefully there’s not too many birdies and not too far behind going into tomorrow. But yeah, I’ll go out there and try and put another good round of golf together and see what happens”.
Matt Fitzpatrick – T3rd at 12-under
Q. Asked how much will it assist him given that he’s won twice and enjoyed three other top-5s at Jumeirah Estates.
Ans: “Yeah, probably a lot more than a few of the other players, so that’s always nice. There’s probably only Rory that’s playing this week that knows it as well as myself.
“Yeah, even just on last, my fourth shot out of the bunker, I remember I had that in 2016 to win. Yeah, there’s just little things when you’re out there in the moment that you can remember, okay, I did this or this putt may go this way. Yeah, it’s definitely helpful.”
Laurie Canter – T3rd at 12-under
Q. Finished T5 on his event debut in 2020 and T14th a year ago. How will this help tomorrow?
Ans: “Yeah, I do. I think since then (2020), I’ve learned a lot and I learned loads that day. When I finished that day, I had a sense I could compete around this golf course with this field, and that did a lot for me. As a result, I was able to, I think, build from that and that probably led to a couple wins and all the stuff that followed, I think.
“To win around here you can’t back off. It’s a golf course where you know where the pins are going to be and you have to step up and win the shots, and the guy who does that will win the tournament”.
Rasmus Hogjaard – T3rd at 12-under
Q. Was tied for the lead after three rounds a year ago. How would it be to go one better tomorrow?
Ans: “Yeah, sounds pretty good to me. I’d love to be there tomorrow on the back nine having a chance”
- Good luck to all those teeing-up tomorrow in Dubai and our thanks again to SKY Golf for the question plus ASAP Sports for the transcripts of the many questions.
