Grand Slam winning Rory McIlroy is 18 holes shy of not only being crowned as Race to Dubai No. 1 for a seventh occasion but should he win the DP World Tour season-ending tournament it will be a fourth time he’s won both titles in the same year.
If so, it will be a second year in succession McIlroy, as the defending DP World Tour Championship defending champ, will also earn both year-ending trophies.
“It would be an amazing way to end the season”, said McIlroy in posting a third round 68 and end the round tied with Swede Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen at 13-under.

“You know, I knew coming out here for these two weeks, Dubai last week and this week, I needed to play well. Marco wasn’t that far behind. Obviously Tyrrell wasn’t that far behind. I knew I needed to come out here, play well.
“I played well when I needed to last week, especially at the weekend. I put myself in position to try to get another win here.
“So yeah, really pleased. I certainly could have coasted into these couple of weeks and enjoyed myself but The Race to Dubai is important to me, and it’s important to me to try to get a little bit closer to Monty.

Aside for the story headline there is 16 players within three shots of the lead including a trio of Ryder Cup winning colleagues tied third at 12-under – Tyrrell Hatton, Matt Fitzpatrick and Tommy Fleetwood.
Three others – Justin Rose, Nicolai Hojgaard and Lugwig Aberg – share ninth at 11-under while there’s the duo of Bethpage Park winning heroes in Shane Lowry and Bob MacIntyre among five at 10-under and that’s just three back.
That’s nine 2025 Ryder Cup winning hero’s and two of the Bethpage Park team members – Fleetwood and MacIntyre – winners on the DP World Tour since that famed bus ride through the Big Apple City.
