“Right now I want to go and smash up my golf clubs”.
The honest and very down-to-earth words from top Scot Robert MacIntyre after the bitter disappointment of letting slip victory in the $20m BMW Championship.
MacIntyre superbly led the FedEx Play-Off Series event for three rounds including taking a four shot lead into the final day only to come up two shots shy of World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler who posted a closing 67 to win by two at 15-under and also collect the whopping $3.6m first prize and a fifth Tour title this season.

MacIntyre was left licking his wounds in managing just one birdie over the final day but then posting four bogeys, including three over his opening five holes and this after recording 16 birdies over the first three rounds.
“I just didn’t play good enough”, said MacIntyre.
“I got off to an absolutely horrific start. I just expected jumpers on 1 and 2. 1, it’s come out dead and then it’s got a massive mud ball just short of the green. Hard to control the chip. But I just felt great going out today. I wasn’t even expecting to be over par, to be honest. I was really expecting to go out there, foot down, and perform the way I have the last couple days.
“My golf ball was going miles today. I don’t know why. I need to work that out. But when I got the game back in somewhat of a shape, I went over the back of the par-3s. I feel I’ve hit good shots, and I’ve gone miles.
“Right now I want to go and smash up my golf clubs, to be honest with you”.
There’s no escaping that MacIntyre was again nthe subject of plenty of harsh pro-Scheffler fan comments but when asked about one incident on the 12th hole he abruptly ended the final round interview saying: “I’m not going to comment”.
