Only five players managed to break 70 on a very testing day two in the 50th anniversary hosting of The Memorial.
American J T Poston posted a second round 65 in the difficult windy condtions to lead the way by a shot at nine-under in the Jack Nicklaus hosted event again being staged of the famed Muirfield Village course in Dublin, Ohio.
Poston, who decided last week to change to what he called the “left dash ball Titleist makes“ said: “It’s supposed to help me a little bit in the wind,” Poston said. “So we felt like today was going to be a good test of that and it obviously performed really well. We had a couple shots that I felt like didn’t quite hit them perfect and it hung in there pretty well.”
Ryan Gerard thanks to a 69 is second while Sam Burns signed for a second 69 to be third at six-under and two shots clear of Tommy Fleetwood (73) lying fourth.
Of note, the game’s top-5 continue to struggle with World No. 1 and double defending champ Scottie Scheffler sharing 19th place after rounds of 73 and 72 Rory McIlroy, and contesing the event for a 13th occasion, is tied with Scheffler post scores of 71 and 74.
