He made the turn at three-under and proceeded to birdie the fourth and sixth holes on the card, that he was playing as his 13th and 15th, for a second day running to be tied sixth and also in the process ensure himself only a second Tour pay cheque after regaining full DP World Tour status at the end of last year.
The Scot trails six shots adrift of American Jordan Gumberg, who leads by two shots at 14-under.
Gumberg said: “I don’t feel like I’ve done anything crazy, I don’t feel like I’m stuffing pins to two feet on every hole, I just kind of kept plugging away – pick up a shot here, pick up a shot there kind of thing.
“My putter is still rolling, which is nice. I left a few out there today for sure on the greens, I had a few five-footers that didn’t go in, but that’s golf, they’re not all going to go in.”
Next best of the Scots is David Law, posting a 66 to be sharing 18th at six-under with Calum Hill (71) at five-under, Daniel Young (70) at three-under while Grant Forrest made it five signing for 71 to be right on the cut mark at one-under
