Rahm Comes To Rescue Of Stranded Eight LIV Golf Colleagues, Safely Arriving In Hong Kong

Despite being in the news for his displeasure with the DP World Tour, Spanish superstar golfer Jon Rahm is to be congratulated in coming to the rescue of eight fellow LIV Golf players stranded in the Middle East due to the Iran war have safely arrived in Hong Kong ahead of LIV’s third event of 2026.

LIV Golf confirmed that all eight players, Lee Westwood, Laurie Canter, Sam Horsfield, Adrian Meronk, Thomas Detry, Caleb Surratt, Tom McKibbin and Anirban Lahiri, arrived in Hong Kong on Wednesday and will play on Thursday as scheduled in the opening round.

LIV Golf said its teams maintained constant communication and provided support to players and their families to ensure their well-being and safe travel to Hong Kong.

It is understood Jon Rahm chartered a flight from Oman to Hong Kong for seven of the eight golfers. Golfers took ground transportation from Dubai, where many were stationed after LIV’s event in Australia to practice, to Oman, where a jet was waiting for them to fly to Hong Kong.

The LIV eight found themselves stuck in the Middle East and unable to continue traveling to Hong Kong due to airport closures amidst the conflict. A majority of passenger flights in and out of the Middle East had all been canceled, leaving the status of those players stuck in the region in limbo as they waited to travel to Hong Kong.

The league had numerous player fill-in options on standby and traveling to Hong Kong to be ready in case the players didn’t make it, but the eight golfers made it with time to spare after midnight local.

In fact, the players arrived in Hong Kong at 11:22 a.m. local time, just over 24 hours from the start of the first round at Hong Kong Golf Club in suburban Fanling.

The opening round of LIV Golf Hong Kong tees off Thursday.
