Palm Harbor, Florida …
Seven days after the bitter disappointment in having the Players Championship snatched from his grasp and Matt Fitzpatrick has bounced straight back to brilliantly capture the Valspar Championship.
Fitzpatrick produced one of the biggest fist pumps of his career in holing a ultra-lucky 13-footer for birdie in a round of 68 for a one shot victory at 11-under on the host Copperhead course.
The golf world had spoken last Sunday in singling out Fitzpatrick for his demeanour following his last to Cameron Young at last Sunday’s Players Championship, such as agreeing to a number of post round media-related interviews as well as the sight of him congratulating Young’s parents and family.

“To be honest it was not the ideal putt“, said Fitzpatrick referring to his 72nd hole victory putt
“It was a nice right-to-lefter. My putting coach Phil Kenyon and I have been working on me having less acceleration in my stroke, and so that it comes out more on the uphill.
“I wouldn’ say I was overly keen, given putting performance today, so to get it done like that was special.“
Special as the win is Fitzpatrick’s 12the career victory and his third on the PGA Tour, and comes in capturing last Novemorber’s DP World Tour Championship in Dubai.
