Dual Winning Ryder Cup Stars Vote ‘Yes’ For Genesis Scottish Open.

The double victorious Ryder Cup duo of Matt Fitzpatrick and Ludwig Oberg have confirmed their appearance in July’s Genesis Scottish Open.

Fitzpatrick is no stranger to the host Renaissance course having contested every Scottish Open at the East Lothian club since 2019 and also each other Scottish Open since his tournament in 2014 at Royal Aberdeen.

He has highlighted a dozen straight Scottish Open showings by being runner-up in 2021 while finishing in a share of fourth a year ago, an effort his matched a week later at Royal Portrush.

Fitzpatrick and Aberg have also become good friends as evident when paired in both the victorious 2023 and 2025 European Ryder Cup sides, including partners in last year’s opening day Morning Foursomes, humbling their USA rivals 5 & 3 in the second match of competiton.

And despite both players bitter disappointment last Sunday at the Players Championship, each is looking forward to returning to Scotland for the $US9m event commencing July 9th.

Speaking to the Daily Record Fitzpatrick said: “Yes, definitely teeing-up in the Scottish in July.  In fact, I’ve not missed a tournament since my first back in 2014.

“It’s an event that’s always on my schedule.

“The Scottish Open has also been really kind to me, finishing fourth a year ago while I was runner-up a few years earlier (2021), so I always look forward to the week.

“The big thing for me is the course presents plenty of room to work with. I feel like I’ve been pretty conservative around the golf course and just playing pretty safe and that’s always been the smart thing to do.

“As well, it’s a great week, great crowds and always a great atmosphere.”

Aberg confirmed his Scottish Open entry intentions also to the Daily Record.

The Ponte Vedra based new World No. 17 has contested the past two Genesis Scottish Open and acquitted himself very well finishing T4th on debut in 2024 and T8th a year ago.

And the double Ryder Cup winning Aberg put himself very much in frame for the biggest win of his career, and just a couple of miles from his Florida home last Sunday before collapsing to share fifth place at PGA Tour HQ.

He said:  “This year’s Scottish Open is very much on my schedule.

“It’s not your true style of a Scottish links-like course but it’s always set-up well while I love the Scottish supporters, as they’re so knowledgeable and supportive.

“Also, I used to head back to Sweden in those two weeks on the calendar and now I have qualified for The Open the past years I’ve found it’s helped my game so much playing the Scottish Open the week prior.

“As well, I just love playing in Europe so it will be great to be returning to Scotland“.
