Young Scot Delighted He’ll Now Get To Visit Egyptian Wonders

Young Scottish-born golfer Aidan O’Hagan is delighted he’ll now get to visit the Egyptian ‘Wonders of the World’ in finishing runner-up in this week’s MENA Tour Amendoeira Golf Resort’s tournament in Portugal.

After 54-holes over the host Christy O’Connor designed Algarve course, the 21-year-old Scot ended-up just one shot shy of tying England’s Chris Wood at 16-under in the second official event of the revamped MENA Tour schedule.

O’Hagan matched Wood’s third and final round 67 but only to fall short at 15-under.

While disappointed O’Hagan now heads into the Festive Season close to top of the MENA Tour moneylist and good enough to now fulfill his pre-Portugal ambition and in doing so he now qualifies for the opening four straight 2026 MENA Tour events and all four in Egypt being staged over the first three weeks of January and the first week of February.

O’Hagan mounted a spirited challenge on the final day, giving himself every chance down the stretch, including a putt on the 18th that would have forced a play-off.

“I unfortunately hit one in the water on three and made double there, so a lot of it for me was just making sure that I was able to get it back to where I needed to be,” O’Hagan explained.

“Slowly picked a few shots back up as we went and by the time we got to 18 I had a putt to tie it all up and it just slipped by unfortunately.”

Despite the disappointment, O’Hagan took significant positives from the experience of pushing a former Ryder Cup player in Wood all the way to the final hole.

“I gained some belief today in my game”, he said.

“It’s been trending in the right direction and just being able to pull off the shots when I needed to, especially with how windy it was. Unfortunately, just a few putts slipped by, but it’s definitely a good stepping stone to kind of kick on after this.”
