Levy Takes Route 66 To Remain In Mauritius Contention

Affable Frenchman Alex Levy is making the most of his invitation keeping himself well in contention heading to the weekend rounds of the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open thanks to finding a bogey-free ‘Route 66’ on day two of the tournament.

Levy’s six-under score finds him in second place at 10-under and just to shots adrift of South African Casey Jarvis who leads the co-sanctioned field on 12-under on the host Heritage La Réserve Golf Links at Heritage Bel Ombre on the southern tip of the Indian Ocean island.

Levy, 35,  lost his 2025 DP World Tour status this past year but put that side to lead for much of Thursday’s opening round only to be overtaken near day’s end by Jarvis and also Scotland’s Scott Jamieson who shared the lead at 5-under.

Jarvis then moved two shots clear thanks to his second round 65 ahead of Levy keeping the pressure on Jarvis on day two.

The 22-year-old Jarvis seems a star in the making having turned pro in 2022 and just in these past six weeks or so he’s won twice on his home Sunshine Tour, as well he’s a former 2023 HotelPlanner Tour winner.

A highlight of Levy’s round was a brilliant chip-in birdie at the par-5 eighth hole along with a lenghty birdie putt at 17 that brought a big smile to his face.

“I played really solid and am very proud because the conditions were tough,” said Levy.

“I managed myself very well and am pleased with that. I’ve been working really hard the last few months and just getting back to what I used to do in the past with my swing, and it’s paying off already which is good.”

That’s good to hear from Levy as he’s no stranger to winning though it’s been seven years since his last taste of success and that being a fifth DP World Tour champion at the 2018 Trophee Hassan 11 event and after his first Tour success at the 2014 Volvo China Open.

The recent years have been tough for Levy having lost main Tour status in 2023 but he superbly regaining full Tour status for 2025 thanks to his 12th place overall on the 2024 secondary HotelPlanner Tour though his return was not to plan, falling short at 140th on the DP World Tour money list.

This is why Levy’s appearance this week in Mauritius, and as mentioned above, is thanks to an invitation.

Of course there is still a long way to go and Levy is going to continue this good form if he’s to become the second French-born Mauritius winner in four years.

Though what a story it would be not only on a personal note for Levy but for French pro golf.
