Sweden’s Henrik Stenson is returning to compete under the DP World Tour flag from next year and for a first time since early 2023.
The golfer known as ‘The Iceman’ has settled DP World Tour fines of over £1m that the former Open Champion needed to hand-over to regain DP World Tour membership thus clearing the way for his return after nearly two-year absence.
This news is already being reported by UK golf magazines.
Stenson and his fellow DP World Tour colleagues were slapped with the fines for their decision to sign with LIV Golf however after a very poor 2025 LIV season the breakaway league announced soon after the final event of the year in Augusta – LIV Indianapolis -that Stenson had LIV and five others no alternative, under their membership guidelines, than to be dropped by LIV and as such it meant the affable Swede found himself not wanted in 2026.
The other players included cut by LIV included Mito Pereira; Andy Ogletree; Yubin Jang; Anthony Kim; and Frederik Kjettrup.

Indeed, Stenson’s form has been far from reaching the 11-victories form he brilliantly earned in his DF World Tour career where he also produced 19 second place finishes and just as many thirds.
In his first full LIV season in 2023 he ended the year 25th on the money list with three top-10s. Last year he contested 13 events managing just two top-10s and ended the year 35th while this past season was no better with just one top-20 finish and that being T12th early in the year in Adelaide.
Stenson ended his third LIV season 49th and hence finding himself not wanted in season 2026.
“Over the course of a career, you’re going to have good years, you’re going to have bad years,” said Stenson following news he was losing LIV membership.
“It’s part of professional sports. You’re going to have disappointment. You’re going to have good times.
“On this end, I had the worst season out of the team, and I’m the one in the worst spot. You’ve just got to deal with it and move forward.”
Of course, the highlight of Stenson’s career was his memorable 2016 Open Championship victory over Phil Mickelson at Royal Troon.
Before this only major championship triumph, Stenson had achieved eight top 6-finishes in majors, without a win. He held the 54-hole lead going into the final round with a margin of one stroke over Mickelson.
GolfByTourMiss walked with the pair as they played together during the final round and with Stenson shooting a stunning 63 to tie Johnny Miller for the best ever final round of a major winner.
Stenson’s overall score of 264 set a record for the lowest score in any major championship. Stenson finished three shots ahead of Mickelson and 14 shots ahead of third-place finisher J. B. Holmes. Stenson proudly became the first male Swede to win a major.
In March 2023 Stenson was warmly applauded when announced as European Ryder Cup Captain but then some two months later the DP World Tour stripped him of the Rome captaincy ahead of confirmation he was joining LIV.
Stenson had actually competed in LIV events before jointing the Tour including his very first LIV appearance at the 2022 LIV Golf Invitational Series at Bedminster when he won by two strokes from Dustin Johnson and Matthew Wolff.
However the tide was turning against the golfer long known as the ‘Iceman’.
On 22 September 2022, the Swedish Golf Federation announced it was ending its partnership with Stenson, because of his relations with LIV Golf.
In January, 2023 Stenson contested both season-opennig DP World Tour events in the UAE but then in May it was announced that Stenson had resigned his membership of the DP World Tour, given he was now subject to multiple fines and suspension from the tour for playing without a conflicting event release.
