MENA Tour Logjam – Ten Within Four Shots Of The Lead, A Round To Play In Season Opener

It is a real golfing log-jam atop of the board heading to the third and final round of the MENA Golf Tour’s season opener with 10 players lying within four shots of the lead at the PGA Aroeira Challenge near Lisbon in Portugal

Italy’s Ludovico Addabbo continues to show the way adding a 67 in rapidly fading light on the back nine, posting a 67 and staying one shot clear at 11-under.

“I’m feeling good, my game is pretty solid. I’ve made a lot of birdies in these two days and sank some good putts, so I’m feeling confident going into tomorrow,” said Addabbo after his round. When asked about his game plan for tomorrow’s closing round, he stated: “There’s no game plan tomorrow. I’m just going out there, have fun and play good golf.”

Portuguese golfer Pedro Figueiredo used his course knowledge to shoot a superb 66 and be at 10-under.

“I know this course quite well,” he explained. “I grew up 20 minutes from here and I used to play here quite a bit as a junior. We had a PGA Portugal event here last week, which was great preparation, so I’m very familiar with the layout.”

And round two co-leader Scotland’s super-talented Sebastian Sandin remains very much in the mix at nine-under, and he’s joined by England’s Jordan Wrisdale, who flew out of the blocks this afternoon with four birdies in his first six holes to finish with a superbly composed 66.

Last week’s Q School winner Chris Wood made a charge up the leaderboard with a stunning 65, the lowest round of the day, a huge turnaround from his opening score of even par yesterday. “I started really well, with four opening birdies but three putted eight for a bogey six. I’ve struggled on the greens a little bit this week. Bit of pace, few bumps here and there. Then I birdied 10, 14, and 17 coming in,” the 2016 BMW PGA Championship winner commented.

Now sitting just four shots off the lead, Wood added: “I probably played better yesterday, but shot level par, though it was tougher conditions. Like any course, once you get to know it a little bit, you feel a little bit comfortable. It still requires a little bit of thinking as well, which I like. So far, so good, and hopefully I can continue in that vein tomorrow.”

The PGA Aroeira Challenge is the first of 12 events offering $100,000 prize funds and Official World Golf Ranking points. It’s also the opening act of consecutive Portuguese tournaments, with the Rolear Algarve Classic at Amendoeira (2-4 December) following immediately.

The MENA Golf Tour then relocates to Egypt for four events in January and February before moving to Morocco, where a mid-season Q-Sprint on 22-23 February will give additional players the opportunity to join the Tour or improve their category status.

The final round tees off on Thursday at 08:00AM GMT
