His efforts will ensure there is not two French-born golfers teeing-up on the famed US Open venue on June 12th after Matthieu Pavon , who already qualified thanks to his 5th place result at last year’s US Open at Pinehurst and also thanks to superbly qualifying for last year’s PGA Tour Championship final.
“I don’t know (Oakmont) at all. I’m looking forward to going there. I’ve heard really good things about this course. I heard the setup is going to be solid this year. It’s going to be interesting to see”. said Frédéric Lacroix
One of the seven French players present this Monday, May 19, at Walton Heath for the 36-hole European qualification for the 3rd Major of the season, brilliantly won one of the eight spots up for grabs in a field of 100 players. The 30-year-old Racingman, winner in Denmark in August 2024 on the DP World Tour , thus signed two very solid cards of 67 (-5) and 68 (-4) on the Old Course and the New Course of the Walton Heath Golf Club .
His final score of -9 (135) allows him to take 2nd place ex aequo with the Swede Joakim Lagergren and the Italian Guido Migliozzi , winner of the Cazoo Open de France 2022 at Golf National . These three finish one stroke behind the winner of this mini-marathon, the Englishman Jordan Smith .
” I’m very happy because I stayed focused ,” Frédéric Lacroix said.
” I did my thing, I tried to avoid any big mistakes. I did well, I met some friends and it went well. I don’t know (Oakmont) at all. I can’t wait to go there. I’ve heard very good things about this course. I heard that the setup is going to be solid this year. It’s going to be interesting to see that. ”
