Gallacher ended the day just inside the top-50 and with 29-year-old Frenchman Felix Mory setting a new course record of a 10-under 61 on the Hills course and the second course being used this week.
Mory’s sizzling opener included two eagles and six birdies.
Gallacher, and with son Jack again on his bag, is contesting FQ for a second occasion in three years and was delighted with his efforts: “I am happy enough after that round and though I left a couple out there, I played a lot of good golf.
“The thing this week is a marathon and not a sprint, so I’m easing my way in, gently.
“The key this week is that you have to be patient and you have to back yourself, given it is over six rounds, that you can post one or two really good rounds that can propel well up the board.
“So, it’s all about staying patient and not getting ahead of yourself”.
The four-time DPWT champion and a member of the 2014 victorious European Ryder Cup side was asked how good he was at staying patient and responded smiling saying: “I used to be good at staying patient but as you get older it’s harder.
“No, the thing is I have been here before and you know, if you are playing good golf you know what you need to what do. So, just keep chipping away and don’t try too hard and just play golf. Just play the game”.
Gallacher ended his 28th full DPWT season and in also a 663rd tournament just on a month ago at the FedEx French Open.
And his presence teeing-up in Spain is very much twofold – first to be among the leading 20 and ties that would see him regain full 2025 DPWT membership and secondly with his thoughts also on heading to the US later next week at tee-up in final qualifying for the 2025 Champions Tour.
Gallacher is among just four Scots competing this week including David Law (67), Ryan Lumsden (72) and Marc Warren (73) and all four Scots now heading to the Hills course for the second round.
