TPC Potomac, Maryland …
Tiger Woods confirmed he will contest just one further event in his goal to qualify for the final WGC – Bridgestone Invitational in early August.
Woods has won the Akron, Ohio event an amazing eight times and it was the scene also in 2013 of what was his 79th and last PGA Tour counting victory.
The current World No. 82nd ranked player is hosting this week’s $US 7.1m Quicken Loans National near Washington DC and the July 19th commencing Open Championship at Carnoustie.
And Woods goal to win a ninth ‘Bridgestone’ takes on extra-special importance as the event is heading in 2019 to Memphis and under the banner of the WGC – FedEx Championship.

Tiger Woods wins 2013 WGC – Bridgestone Invitational and in what was his 79th PGA Tour event and his last win anywhere.
“ I’m only going to play two events between now and hopefully the Bridgestone, here and The Open,” he said on the eve of the Quicken Loans National and an event he’s won twice before but is entering for a first time since 2015.
“It is one of my goals to get in there just because I’ve won it eight times. I love Firestone, it’s one of the classic golf ourses, it’s right in front of you. There’s no tricks, it’s just right in front of you and it’s tough. We don’t get to play classic courses like that anymore and I’ve always enjoyed playing it, you can tell by the results I’ve had.
“But I would like to get in there one more time. I know the Senior Tour’s going there, or Champions Tour is going there, so eight more years from now I’ll be able to get a start and I don’t want to wait that long, just another month or so.”
