Aussie Matt Jones is celebrating after regaining his PGA Tour card for this week’s starting 2017/18 wraparound season.
Jones posted a final round 67 for a 17-under par tally at Monday’s conclusion to the storm-affected Web.com Tour Championship at the Atlantic Beach course near Orlando in Florida.

The effort by the former Australian Open winner was good enough for the 37-year old Sydneysider to secure the 17th place among the leading 25 on the Tour’s ‘Final 25’ list that earn full PGA Tour membership.
It is a huge boost for Jones who lost his Tour card at the end of 2016 at the conclusion of his two-year exemption in capturing the 2014 Shell Houston Open.
However, he did manage to contest 20 events on the recently-concluded 2016/17 PGA Tour year but Jones struggled with a best of T13th in the Valero Texas Open and end the season 152nd on the money.
Jones’ effort will now see a small contingent of six Australians compete full time this coming season on golf’s greatest stage.
They include – Jason Day, Marc Leishman, Adam Scott, Cameron Smith and Geoff Ogilvy.
The news sadly was not as good for Victorian Cameron Percy.
Percy birdied his closing two hole in a round of a two-under par 69 to in a tie for 20th at 13-under par but in the bigger PGA Tour card picture the 43-year old dropped four places to end the ‘Final 25’ in 29th place and some $US 10,000 shy of 25th place.
Percy is now resigned to competing next year full-time on the Web.com Tour where he will be joined by Taree-born Brad Drewitt.
The 26-year old contested 19 events on the 2016/17 PGA Tour season but missed the cut in 10 to end the year ranked 196th on the money list.
Drewitt posted a 67 over the last day of the Web.com Tour Championship to finish T32nd on 11-under par.
Earlier in the event, Perth’s Curtis Luck missed the cut by a shot with scores of 70 and 68.
Also missing the cut was Stuart Appleby with rounds of 66 but then producing six birdies, two bogeys, one double-bogey and two triple bogeys in a horror second day 75.
Sydney’s Jamie Arnold had also missed the cut with the 34-year shooting scores of 68 and 75.
And Rhein Gibson was among 16 withdrawals following the third after posting rounds
of 70, 67 and 71, and at five-under knowing he had little chance of securing a PGA Tour card.
