Winner Of Olympic Golfing Gold Medal To Be Exempt Into Majors.

Augusta, GA …It has been announced at Augusta National that as an extra incentive, the winner of the men’s and women’s Olympic golfing gold medal will be exempt into the following year’s Majors.
Representatives of Augusta National, United States Golf Association, the R&A, and PGA of America said that the men’s winner will receive an invitation into each of their championships, starting in 2017: the Masters, U.S. Open, British Open, and the PGA Championship.

All eyes on Masters Chairman Billy Payne with news that both the men and women will gain exemption into all the Majors for a year post this year’s Olympics.

“We believe our game’s visibility will be dramatically elevated by the global platform that only the Olympics offer,” Augusta National chairman Billy Payne said.

It means that for the male gold medal winner will get to play in all four Majors in 2017.

The women’s gold medal winner will receive an invitation to compete in next year’s ANA Inspiration, KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, U.S. Women’s Open and RICOH Women’s British Open. Additionally, they will receive an invitation into The Evian Championship in September, which will take place this year after the Olympics.

Golf will be played in the Olympics for the first time since 1904. It will feature 60 men and women competing in a 72-hole stroke-play tournament.

Of course, many of golf’s leading stars competing in Rio will already be exempt into the four Majors via the top-50 on the World Rankings.
However for some of the least stronger golf nations it is another boost to win an Olympic gold medal.
