Augusta, GA … No matter what size, Rory McIlroy insists he will ensure the Augusta National green jacket fits should he win the Masters.
www.golfbytourmiss.com sat down with the four-time Major winner and asked McIlroy seven questions on all things Augusta National and the Masters.
He was asked to provide just a sentence or two and his response to the Green Jacket was pure McIlroy.
Magnolia Lane – “The most famous roadway in all of golf. I grew up watching the Masters on TV and you do get to see a bit of Magnolia Lane on TV. The first time I drove down Magnolia Lane it was pretty cool and even still now it’s pretty amazing, as there is still a great buzz.
“What I love nowadays is the reaction from friends of mine who I will take down Magnolia Lane for a first time.
Augusta National Clubhouse – “You really only see the clubhouse when you get to the end of Magnolia Lane and in seeing it for a first time I was not aware how big is the clubhouse because it is very wide. Then once you have been inside it’s pretty cool but I have never yet been up to the Champions Locker room.
Badge No – “Not important except when I get to be handed No. 1”
Stepping on to the first tee with that unique introduction – ‘Quiet please, Rory McIlroy now driving’. – “That’s pretty cool and that’s another cool thing about Augusta. There is two guys who do the introductions and I’ve got to know one of them pretty well, a guy named Toby. So that’s nice as when you get to know these guys it does make you feel a lot more comfortable.
One Hole you need to treat with more respect than the other 17 holes – “The 16th as it is one of those hole where there are chances for birdie but for me I am happy to take par there and if can play the 16th in level par all week then I am always very happy and you’re doing okay.”
Walking up the 18th – “I know my legs at that point start to get tired a little bit (laughing). But again, it is one of those holes at Augusta that I have come to admire in growing up and watching the Masters on TV. So it’s a great closing hole in golf and especially with all the crowd gathered around the green during competition days.”
Green jacket – “Between a 38 and a size 40. But just anything they give me as I will be happy wearing any size as I will make sure it fits.”
