Geoff Ogilvy Emerges From ‘Dark & Gloomy’ & ‘Ho Hum’ Round Into Bright Light With 69 At Wells Fargo.

Aussie golfer Geoff Ogilvy is never short of providing good copy.

And he continued that trend after the former U.S. Open winner put himself into contention of day two of the Wellls Fargo Championship here at Quail Hollow in suburban Charlotte, North Carolina.

Ogilvy was out in the fourth group of the morning from the 10th tee at 7.30am but after starting with a brightly with a birdie but then proceeded to bogey his next two holes.

He then got back to four under par with birdies at sixth and seventh holes but headed to the back nine having bogeyed his ninth while Ogilvy commenced the inward half with a bogey at his 10th.

However the 37-year old, who has eight PGA Tour wins to his credit including capturing last year’s Barracude Championship, then ignited his round with five birdies in succession from his 12th hole to race to seven under par.

But Ogilvy then ended with a bogey in an eventual score of a second straight 69 to end the day sharing eighth place on six under par.

“It was kind of really dark early on I thought and I don’t know if that makes a difference,” he said.

“I thought the first few holes were weird because it was dark and gloomy.

“But I played really well on the back nine managing five birdies in a row and that turned a kind of ho-hum round into a good round.”
