Tom Watson – ‘My Team Are Dropping Like Flies’.

Tom Watson repeated his comments of a day earlier saying those in the make-up for Ryder Cup selection are ‘dropping like flies’.

And with an injury cloud hanging over the head of Matt Kuchar and Jason Dufner, as well as Tiger Woods struggling badly during his second round here at Valhalla, the USA Captain was asked if is concerned.

“Yes, there is concern as we’re falling like flies right now, some of the players that are either on the borderline or on the team,” said Watson following his second day 73 for a three over par tally.

“That’s a concern.  There’s time for recovery and there’s certainly a lot of golf to be played between now and September 2 when I make those three picks.

“So I am concerned.  I want those guys to play well, and I want ‑‑ most importantly, can they play well free of injury.

“As I’ve said about Tiger, the main thing ‑‑ the two things, is he free of injury and is he playing well.  That goes with the territory with all the other picks as well.”

Automatic qualification for Watson’s side ends on Sunday night while he will join European Captain, Paul McGinley in both naming their three ‘wildcard’ picks on Tuesday 2nd September.
