Former US Open champion, Michael Campbell has been forced out of his fourth European Tour event in succession.
However on this occasion Campbell’s father Tom is reportedly to be unwell and Campbell has left Portugal, where he was to compete in this week’s Portugal Masters, and returned home to New Zealand.
Campbell had been forced out before tee off in the recent Omega European Masters due to a bout of food poisoning.
He then had to withdraw from the following week’s KLM Open and then could only manage a handful of holes at Kingsbarns and the Alfred Dunhhill Links Championship when he injured tendons in his left ankle after twisting his foot in a hollow.
And while we wish Campbell’s father a speedy recovery, it means that Campbell has contested just 15 of 19 events this season.
As well, Campbell had been looking forward to competing this week at Villamoura after securing his best finish of some time last year in third behind Ireland’s Shane Lowry.
