Frenchman Gregory Bourdy and Spain’s big-hitting Alvaro Quiros look headed for Muirfield next month after superb scoring displays in today’s 36 -hole Open Championship qualifier at Sunningdale.
Bourdy carded a pair of 68s over the Old and New Course at the Surrey golfing gem while Quiros posted rounds of 66 & 70 for a three under par tally.
Bourdy will be hopefully making just his fourth Open Championship appearance after failing to qualify on five other occasions.
Quiros has contested the past four years.
Biggest disappointment was that of England’s Tom Lewis who was seeking to return to The Open for a first time since his brilliant showing two years ago at Royal St. George’s.
Lewis headed the 96 players after the opening round with a blistering 66 that included six birdies over his opening 14 holes before dropping two shots over his four.
However the 2011 Portugal Masters champion carded a horror second round of a six over par 75 that included six bogeys from the eight to 18th holes.
