World No. 2 Rory McIlroy is favourie to capture this week’s Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow.
Odds.com show McIlroy as a 9/1 favorite followed by Phil Mickelson and Lee Westwood at 15/1.
McIlroy won the event in 2010 in what was his first taste of success on the PGA Tour. However the Northern Irishman, who turns 24 on Saturday, is yet to taste success this season on either the PGA Tour or European Tour.
But in a head-to-head matchup, Mickelson is +110 vs. Westwood who is -130.
Other notables and their Vegas odds include Webb Simpson, Dustin Johnson, and Rickie Fowler at 20/1. Las Vegas Golf Region resident Nick Watney opened 40/1 and fellow resident and defending Ryan Moore is 60/1.
The official PGA Tour.com Power Rankings reveal a top five favorite list of Simpson, Bill Haas (30/1 in Vegas), McIlroy, Bubba Watson (25/1), and Watney. PGATour.com Power Rankings expert Rob Bolton writes the following about Vegas’ Watney: “Shot 3-under 69 in every round in New Orleans to post a T15, his second straight top 15. Six top 25s in eight trips to Quail Hollow including a personal-best solo eighth last year when he held the outright lead after 36 holes.”
However in what has to be a great bet a surely refreshed Martin Laird of Scotland is 80/1 and in only his second event since capturing the Valero Texas Open.
