Sweden’s Kristoffer Broberg is unquestionably one of the most exciting players not only to come out of Sweden in recent years but to burst onto the European Tour.
The 26-year old Broberg virtually wrapped up his 2013 Tour card in just his second Race to Dubai event since finishing the second leading graduate from the 2012 secondary Challenge Tour.
Broberg’s excellent second place finish behind 2011 Masters champion, Charl Schwartzel in the Alfred Dunhill Championship at Leopard Creek has seen the Swede claw his way into third place on the 2013 Race to Dubai schedule with earnings of Euro 174,759.

That amount would have seen Broberg finish 126th on the 2012 Race to Dubai.
Broberg posted a last round 70 for a 12-under par tally that saw him grab second place on his own and one shot fewer than South African Garth Mulroy and in-form Scot Scott Jamieson who shared third place.
“I actually played pretty badly again today, for the second day running!” said Broberg.
“But the positives were I scrambled well and made a few big putts so I’m happy with result more than the performance.
“My driving was wild, I was pulling everything but fortunately I got away with it and things went my way in terms of how everyone else played and I got a great finish in the end.”
Broberg, with good friend Jamie acting as caddy, burst onto the Challenge in the later half of the season and did he make golf observers sit up and take notice when he won three of his opening four events.
That automatically guaranteed Broberg his main European Tour card for 2013 and while he then took advantage of accepting invitations to compete in a handful of Race to Dubai events, including the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship and BMW Italian Open, Broberg returned to the Challenge Tour to capture the Crowne Plaza Copenhagen Challenge before sharing seventh place in the season-ending event in Italy.
Broberg’s effrort in South Africa has seen him jump 42 places to 79th on the World Rankings.
Less than 12 months ago Broberg was ranked a lowly 1,401st in the world but his top-100 ranking now means he will qualify for the 2013 PGA Championship at Oak Hill.
Broberg and his caddy, Jamie will now enjoy a well-earning Christmas and New Year break before his returning to competition for next month’s presitious Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.
And it will be a special occasion for Broberg as it will be the first occasion in his pro career he will get to tee up in the same tournament as World No. 1 Rory McIlroy and 14-time Major winning Tiger Woods.
