Ryder Cup Executives Uncertain If Investigating Abusive & Obscene Remarks Directed At G Mac’s Girlfriend

It is uncertain, despite one newspaper report, that Ryder Cup executives are investigating allegations of abusive and obscene remarks directed at the wives and girlfriends of the European Team players.

Among those singled out was Kristin Stape, and the American-born girlfriend of Graeme McDowell.

The Belfast Telegraph has splashed the story on their sports pages but have failed to back up any of the claims and spoken to no one either at the European Tour or connected with the PGA of America.

Stape has been by McDowell’s side for about a year and is now a constant companion to the 2010 U.S. Open champion.  She walked inside the ropes all four days of this year’s Open Championship and accompanying McDowell’s father, Kenny.

And she was on hand last week lending support to McDowell and the European Team despite being among a number of wives and partners of the Europeans who were born in America.

The alleged abuse directed at Stape was one of a number of stories which  surfaced over the weekend of isolated incidents involving fans shouting  obscenities to the visiting players and partners during matches.

One of the most shocking incidents was one comment made relating to the late golfing great Seve Ballesteros which was picked up by television crews.

Former Ryder Cup captain Ballesteros died last year. He was a close friend of  many of the Europe squad and his image adorned the team’s bags and sweaters they  wore on Sunday.

Another fan also reportedly mocked Europe’s Justin Rose over the death of his  father Ken from cancer.

Two young fans were ejected from the course for shouting abuse at Belguim’s Nicolas Colsaerts.
