Tiger Woods Fourth Design Course Underway In Mexico.

Unlike his stalled course design project in Dubai, work is well under way on a Tiger Woods first-ever golf course design project in Mexico with the 14-time Major winner designing the El Cardonal’ course at Diamante Cabo San Lucas.

Work began last month on the 7,300-yard course and it will be the second on the 1,500 acre ocean front estate in Cabo San Lucas, joining Diamante Dunes, the Davis Love 111 natural links venue that opened in 2009.

Tiger Woods design project underway at Diamante Cabo San Lucas in Mexico.

“Diamante is a growing resort community that is already home to GOLF Magazine’s 58th ranked course in the world,” said Diamange CEO Ken Jowdy.

“We believe a Tiger Woods Design course will be the perfect complement to Davis Love III’s Dunes Course and will embody the high standards we have set at Diamante.”

Woods Design plans to integrate the rolling hills and stunning scenery into the old-style California course, specifically designed to differ from the Dunes Course.

Influenced by the old-style courses of Southern California that he grew up playing, Tiger’s vision is to create a course that brings back the need for strategy – with several options to navigate each hole.

Owners also state the course will challenge expert players, but it will also provide options for those with higher handicaps as well.

“I set up the golf strategy to make golfers think and make choices,” said Woods.

“Regardless of your handicap, there are going to e different ways to play every hole.

“Angles of approach are going to be very important and will dictate the type of shots you should consider. I love this kind of golf.”

With dramatic long-range views of the Pacific Ocean, natural arroyos, mature vegetation, native dunes and Diamante’s signature service, the Tiger Woods Design Course at Diamante will be a challenging and rewarding golf experience that you’ll want to play again and again.

El Cardonal is only the fourth golf course deal signed by Tiger Woods Design since the firm’s inception in 2006 but none have yet been completed.

“Our goal at Tiger Woods Design is to find locations to design unique and memorable golf courses, and Diamante definitely meets that objective,” said Woods.

“We are excited to work with Tiger Woods and his design team. He brings a wealth of golf knowledge and experience and we look forward to creating a world-class golf course.”
