David Lynn’s Head In The Clouds But Feet On The Ground.

England’s David Lynn had his head in the clouds but his feet are still firmly on the ground after his second place finish in the PGA Championship.

Lynn, 38 was stuck on the 15th tee for 40 minutes when clouds rolled in to totally engulf the Crans-sur-Sierre course mid-morning.

Play was finally suspended at 11.45am and it wasn’t till 1.30pm we had a restart.

“We were just waiting and waiting for some word and virtually standing in the clouds which aren’t the warmest of places,” said Lynn after eventually ending his round near 5.15pm with a round of 65 for a six under par 54-hole tally.

“So my head was really in the clouds (smiling) and that’s a joke we were saying at the time but then I’ve been reflecting my head’s been ni the clouds for the past few weeks.

“Seriously, it’s just amazing how quick the clouds can roll in and you’re lucky to see more than 10-yards sometimes.

“Though the sun is out now and it’s warming up though that’s what you get up here in the mountains.”

However Lynn confessed he’s come down off ‘cloud nine’ since securing the biggest pay cheque of his 17-year pro career in earning Euro 712,914 in finishing eight shots behind Rory McIlroy at Kiawah Island.

Lynn’s effort was Euro 512,915 more than his previous best cheque he earned in winning his only Tour event, the 2004 KLM Open.

“Yes, I’ve come down a little bit off ‘cloud 9’ so to say and but then here we are speaking up the mountains,” he laughed.

“But seriously I’m back down to earth and getting on with my golf now.”

And Lynn, who has also shrewdly invested his some Euro 7m in career earnings in buying properties, heads to Holland next week not only buoyed by his Kiawah Island effort but in heading back to the Hilversum course where he won eight years ago.

“I was second in Holland last year so on top of second in the PGA I’m going back to the KLM Open with a real spring in my step,” he said.

“We’re back at Hilversum again so that’s always nice.”

Lynn revealed also he’s getting a lot more recognition on and off the course following his effort in South Carolina.

“It’s been great and there’s lot of players still congratulating me whereas the spectators are saying ‘well done at the PGA,” he said.

“The result certainly got me noticed but then it’s taken 16 years (laughing).

“You could say I’m an overnight success.”
