Garcia & Colsaerts Ryder Cup Aspirations On Hold As Wyndham Result Delayed.

The 2012 Ryder Cup aspirations of Spain’s Sergio Garcia and Belguim’s big-hitting Nicolas Colsaerts are on hold after heavy rain forced the postponement of the final round of the Wyndham Championship.

Garcia is not only looking to end a four-year PGA Tour winless drought but also looking to move inside the top-10 on the European Ryder Cup points table.

Torrential rain forces final round of 2012 Wyndham Championship into a Monday finish for a first time since 1983.

In fact, Garcia needs only to finish top- 3 in North Carolina when the event resumes at 9am Monday morning US time to unseat Ian Poulter who is currently lying 10th.

Whatever the Ryder Cup qualifying outcome many observers believe that whether or not Garcia or Poulter automatically qualify the player who misses out will be chosen by Jose Maria Olazabal as a ‘wildcard’ pick.

The big question remains who will the Spaniard choose as his second Medinah wildcard.

If Colsaerts were chosen he would be the only rookie heading to Medinah so it’s important to the reigning Volvo World Match-Play champion to break inside the top-10 to remove any question marks from the mind of Olazabal.

When rain forced the postponement to play Garcia continued to lead having played just four holes and moving to 15-under par and still one stroke clear of South African Tim Clark but with Jason Duffner, a twice winner this year, now the big threat sharing second place on 14-under par with Clark and American compatriot, Bud Cauley.

Colsaerts, who was afforded an invitation to compete in the event, is just four strokes off the lead at 12-under par and having played 12 holes.

It is the first time since 1983 the Greensboro event has spilled over into a Monday finish.
