2014 Junior Ryder Cup To Be Staged At Blairgowrie.

Organisers have announced the 2014 Junior Ryder Cup will take at the Blairgowrie Golf Club in Scotland will host the biannual competition between boys and girls.

Shona Robison, MSP, Scotland’s Minister for Commonweath Games and Sport, confirmed the Perthshire course to stage the event from 22nd to 23rd September, 2014 and just a week before the staging of the 2014 Ryder Cup at nearby Gleneagles.

“It will be very special to hold the 2014 Junior Ryder Cup at Blairgowrie and so close to Gleneagles,” said Robison.

“Europe lost the 2010 Junior Ryder Cup by 15 ½ points to 10 ½ points but I’m sure that will be overturned in Chicago next month so that Europe will then be able to defend the trophy in Scotland in 2014.”

The Junior Ryder Cup was first staged in 1997 with European entering a side boasting Spain’s Sergio Garcia who later next month will make his sixth appearance in the Ryder Cup.

Current Word No. 1 Rory McIlroy was a member of the 2004 European Team while Sweden’s Suzanne Petersson and American Hunter Mahan participated in the 1999 series of matches.

Others to graduate from the Junior Ryder Cup include England’s Oliver Fisher, who played in the 2004 Junior Ryder Cup, Italy’s Matteo Manassero, a former British Amateur champion and double European Tour winner who played in 2008.

Others to represent Europe in the Junior Ryder Cup include reigning Dubai Desert Classic winner, Rafa Cabrera-Bello, Belgium’s Nicolas Colsaerts and double Ladies European Tour winner, Scotland’s Carly Booth.

European Ryder Cup Director, Richard Hills said it will be a welcome return to the Blairgowrie course in Perthshire.
