New French Government Will Not Affect 2018 Ryder Cup Preparations.

The election of a new Government in France will have no impact on the staging of the 2018 Ryder Cup at the Le Golf National course near Versailles.

Former French President, Nicolas Sarkozy had given strong state support backing the bid which he stated was a priority for France along with securing  Euro 2016, and a bid to host the 2018 Winter Olympics and in the wake of the crushing loss to London to host the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Keith Waters - 'New French Government no concern for 2018 Ryder Cup'.

But with his outing and the swearing in of Francois Hollande as the country’s 24th President there should be no change given the strenght of the French Golf Federation.

“The face there is a new government in France should not change the build-up to the 2018 Ryder Cup as all the arrangements are already set in place,” said Keith Waters, Director of International Policy at the European Tour.

“The biggest challenge with any tournament is finance and personally, I don’t see how the economic environment is going to change in the next two or three years.

“However the strong point in France’s favour is that the French Golf Federation drove the 2018 Ryder Cup bid and it was there members across the country that supported it.

“The Federation asked each member of each club in France to pay something like two to three Euros each a year and that’s the big plus in France’s favour.

“But then you look at Spain, where there is elections taking place.  We have five events this year and some of the officials we hae been dealing with have left.

“So the Tour is going to have to give those new officials time to settle in before we can begin working with them.”
