Stephen Gallacher is confident a neck injury will not restrict his efforts in this week’s Iskandar Johor Open or spoil next week’s World Cup of Golf showing in China.
The Scot was sporting a large skin coloured strip of adhesive tape all down the right side of his neck heading into the $US 3m event in Johor.
Gallacher believes he first hurt his back in lifting luggage off a carousel last week in Singapore’s Changi Airport and then picked up the neck injury while asleep.
He missed the cut in Singapore with scores of 73 and 71 to be lying 58th and just inside the top-60 in the Race to Dubai.
“I hurt my back lifting luggage and somehow I’ve pulled some muscles in my neck and I was hardly able to practice at all last week in Singapore,” he said.
“I did it lifting suitcases at Singapore Airport and event getting here to Johor, I’ve only managed to play eight holes.”
Galllacher’s been undergoing constant treatment on his neck while he’s also been taking pain-killers and anti-inflamatories.
“The diagnostic is good and I should be right by the start of the event and I’ll be flying next week for the World Cup,” he said.
Gallacher will team with Scotland’s highest world-ranked Martin Laird for the November 24th starting World Cup of Golf being staged this year on Hainan Island off the south-east China coast.
And Gallacher seemed to have put the neck injury behind him in posting an opening round three under par 68 in continued sauna-like conditions.
“The neck is much better and it seems the treatment I’ve been having has worked wonders,” he said.
Gallacher’s opening day was a mix of four birdies and just one dropped shot.
