Dustin Johnson was heading straight back to his rented house for rest after acing the par three, 16th on the opening day of the 140th Open Championship.
The 27-year old American used a pitching wedge to hole out at the 163-yard par three hole to record a third hole-in-one in his career.
It was the first hole-in-one in an Open since Thomas Levet aced the 15th holes during the final round of the 2009 Open at Turnberry.
However Johnson then revealed he has been taking anti-biotics for a mystery illness.
“I’m not feeling that well, so I’m a little bit under the weather,” he said.
“My glands are swollen. I’ve got some kind of infection and I’m on anti-biotics. Sore throat, I don’t know, something.
“So I’m going home to rest.”
It’s little wonder last year’s near Whistling Straits hero was not that excited in shooting a level par 70.
“I’m not very excited at all,” said Johnson.
Johnson had been four over par after 12 holes but played his five in four under par including a birdie at 14, birdie at 15, hole-in-one at 16, birdie at 17 but then a bogey at the last.
