Donald Takes To The ‘Burma Road’ Fast Lane With A 64 On Day One Of BMW PGA.

Luke Donald equalled his lowest-ever European Tour round in shooting a seven-under par 64 and lead by two on the opening day of the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

Luke Donald justifiably pleased after shooting a caree low equalling 64.

The Chicago-based Donald, who was runner-up at Wentworth last year, tamed the wet and windy conditions to snatch eight birdies in a seven-under par 64 in an equal European Tour career best display.

“That was probably one of the best rounds I’ve ever played to be honest,” said Donald.

“The conditions were tough out there with the wind swirling, and there was some rain showers.

“So to pretty much have total control of the golf ball doesn’t happen very often in golf but that’s how I felt today.”

Reigning U.S. Open champion, Graeme McDowell played alongside Donald and remarked his fellow Ryder Cup winning colleague currrently has the ball on a ‘frozen rope’.

“It is difficult to play alongside a guy who’s got it on a piece of string at the moment, and his putter is just so hot right now,” said McDowell.

“That just compounds the way you feel.  He and Westwood are the best players in the world at the moment but then Luke is impressive, very impressive.

“His iron play is off the planet and he just chips and putts like God.

“So Luke’s got it on a frozen rope right now whereas my rope long ago melted.”
