‘Double D’ Delighted To Be On Home Soil For Pair Of Historic Asian Tour Events In UK

David Drysdale finds himself right at home, and also a lone Scot, over this fortnight contesting back-to-back Asian Tour events on UK soil.

Drysdale, 48, will tee-up at this week’s $US2m International Series England on the host Close House course near Newcastle in northern England and next week the Borders golfer will be also be the only Scottish golfer to tee-up in the $US 1.5m St. Andrews Bay Championship at the Fairmont Resort outside of St. Andrews

As well, living at Dunbar he’s just a 90-minute drive north of Close House and around the same driving time around the Firth of Forth to the opposite of the famed Scottish river to St. Andrews.

David Drysdale delighted to be playing on home soil over this next fortnight of Asian Tour competition in the UK

The Close House and St. Andrews Bay events will be an historic first for the Asian Tour and with their staging, as many have already stated, somewhat of a move against the DP World Tour in hosting two back-to-back tournaments earlier this on the Asian Tour’s front doorstep in Singapore and Thailand.

As well, the DP World Tour events were kept ‘in house’ without any involvement of the Asian Tour and this, after many so many years of co-sanctioned between both tours over the past decades.

None of this will concern Drysdale who is currently lying 66th on the Asian Tour Order of Merit in the 10 events remaining this season.

The Eyemouth attached golfer is one of only a few Asian Tour members to have played both UK courses, and looks to capitalise on the opportunity

Drysdale said: “It’s pretty cool.  I never thought when I went to the Asian Tour Q-School in January that I’d end-up playing two events so close home.”

Of course, the proud Scot still has unfinished business on both the DP World Tour and Asian Tour, and that’s a long overdue maiden Tour title

Drysdale said: “There are a lot of good players out here on the Asian Tour, there’s a lot of guys also, like me, who have played the European Tour.

“So, I’ve got the experience of doing that but I guess it’s good to have a bit of home advantage this fortnight.”
